THE NAME
The term, obvious in Italian, is inspired to the tool used by a seamstress, (a thimble), to protect the tip of the fingers from needle puncturing, for the analogies with the dimensions of the format. There are different sizes, small, medium and large. They are also called Tubetti (small tubes), Gnocchetti di ziti (bridegroom’s dumplings), Coralli (coral). In Puglia and Sicily Denti di vecchia (old woman’s teeth) or Denti di cavallo (horse teeth).
