THE NAME
The Italian word “pipa” refers to the object so dear to smokers, the pipe, which is characterized by a rounded curve that joins a hollow cane to the tobacco chamber. Pipe pasta, a curved tube shape, gets its name from this form which is similar to a small elbow. It is also known by other names and there are formats of different sizes, such as Chifferi, named after the shape of the Austrian dessert called Kipferl, Chiocciolette, Cirillini, Genovesini, Gobbetti, Lumachine, Stortini, Tofarelle e Tortini (meaning small twists). The form is found also in a large size.
