THE NAME
A home made spaghetti strand is taken, rolled against a knitting needle and stretched. This way a strand shaped like a serpentine is obtained. With industrial production, the Fusillo was perfected by the addition of a hole. The term derives from the Italian word fuso (spindle) that indicates the wooden tool used to spin wool by hand, that reminds of the action made to roll the pasta for its continuous spinning. Variable in length, they present an exceptional variety of local names, to indicate the wide diffusion throughout Italy.
