THE NAME
The term, obvious in Italian, is inspired by the thimble, a tool used by a seamstress to protect the tip of the fingers from being punctured by the needle, for the similarities with the dimensions of the pasta format. There are different sizes, small, medium and large. It also called Tubetti (small tubes), Gnocchetti di ziti (bridesgroom’s dumplings), Coralli (coral). In Puglia and Sicily Denti di vecchia (old woman’s teeth) or Denti di cavallo (horse’s teeth).
